Back The Background to "The Grand Tour"

My second book for Robert Hale was accepted without the need for changes, apart from the fact that its original title was simply 'Grand Tour'. In some respects, the research needed for this book was more extensive, because the story concerns a journey across Europe. However, it was made easier for me by the fact that many people made such journeys in the late eighteenth century, and often very obligingly wrote accounts of what had happened to them. The letters of Horace Walpole and the journal of Mrs Piozzi were particularly useful here. There is a fuller bibliography at the end of 'The Grand Tour'.
